What is an EIA?

EIA means Environmental Impact Assessment which has to be made in order to investigate and assess effects on the environment from an infrastructure project such as the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link.

It is a study of the environmental conditions and an assessment of impacts which makes it possible to minimize or avoid undesirable effects. If it seems likely that the environment will be significantly affected, alternatives are suggested and effects compared.

Another important aim is to involve the local community in the decision-making process as much as possible. This will take place via public consultations and the publication of the results of the EIA.
